City Glauchau
Situated in the Erzgebirge basin, between the West Saxon cities of Chemnitz and Zwickau, lies the large district town of Glauchau with its approximately 23,500 inhabitants. Seen from a bird's eye view, Glauchau is a city in the countryside. Numerous parks characterize the image of the former garden city.
Culture
The castles Forder- and Hinterglauchau are increasingly becoming a place of sophisticated cultural events. The municipal theatre is known far beyond the region. Open-air concerts with internationally renowned artists, concerts on the Silbermann organ, cultural-historical sights and architecturally valuable buildings draw many visitors to Glauchau every year - an old and yet young city that offers history, culture and numerous opportunities for active recreation and relaxation.
Leisure opportunities
In addition to history and culture, Glauchau is ideal for active recreation. On 60 km of marked hiking trails amongst other things a animal enclosure, the Rümpfwald and the recreational area around the 40-acre reservoir around which many clubs (e. g. for canoeing, tennis and archery) have settled, tempt to be discovered. The Gründelpark with its pond and the island invite to walks as well.
The Erzgebirge - Zwickau and surroundings
Zwickau undoubtedly has what many other cities have: quaint pubs, national and international gastronomy, hotels and inns from family to classy and numerous shops in the city center, well-kept parks and sites for sporting leisure activities.
There is also a lot of unmistakable and unique. Because the automobile and Robert Schumann city is a mecca for those who like it historically - whether music, theater, automobile or museum. Furthermore, many buildings are characterized by particularly well-preserved buildings from the period of promoterism and Art Nouveau. The August Horch Museum, the Zwickau University of Applied Sciences and the Robert Schumann Conservatory are the city's most famous cultural and educational institutions.
The region also includes the cities of Crimmitschau, Glauchau, Hartenstein, Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Kirchberg, Lichtenstein, Limbach-Oberfrohna, Meerane, Oberlungwitz, Waldenburg, Werdau, Wildenfels and Wilkau-Haßlau. Above all, Hohenstein-Ernstthal is known as the birthplace of the writer Karl May and the Sachsenring, on which, among other things, the Germany race of the motorcycle world championship is held.
